Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How are you able to afford travel?
Most of my travels are funded through photography work and Instagram sponsored posts. Not only do I only work with companies I trust and believe in, they also pay for many of my trips all over the world so I am happy when the opportunities come my way. Many destinations also fund my travel in order to bring more tourism to their regions which is an excellent exchange. I am lucky enough to use these tools to fund my travels currently.
Q: What kind of Camera do you use?
I use a Canon 6D with 16mm-35mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 and 24-70mm 2.8f
Lee Filters: 10 stop and .3,.6,.9 soft Grad
Tripod: Manfrotto 190 GO!
Q: Where is your favorite place?
I don’t have just one! Most of my favorite images found on my site are my favorite places. I'm particularly fond of New Zealand and my home in the Canadian Rockies.
Q: How do you find people to adventure with?
Instagram is a big one for finding friends! Also through local hiking groups and Alpine clubs. Instameets are really great! I have found many friends just though travels mostly however.
How old are you?
Q: How did you get started in photography?
It started a few years ago when I started getting into hiking, I used Instagram casually and people really started to enjoy that. I met a few friends that were photographers through the App and they taught me a lot about cameras and compositions and as our friendships grew so did my skills. I recently took a leave of work to pursue photography full time.
Q: What are the most important things to travel with?
Well, obviously my camera and equipment would be number one on my packing list. Then my cell phone (it is unlocked so I can purchase prepaid cards in the country I travel to np!) Then it depends on where I am going, if it’s hot, light sandals are a must and of course hiking boots no matter where I am. I always have my Visa Passport Gold to make purchases anywhere in the world and my passport. Comfortable airport clothing (including warm layers for cold AC on planes) and then some basic toiletries. I like to bring my tent, sleeping bag and mat if I am doing a lot of back country camping at my destination, but it depends where I travel to.
Q: What do you do for “down” time?
I usually like to watch documentaries or cuddle with my cat. I really enjoy catching up with my family any chance I get. My favorite thing to do to relax is catch up with friends at the local coffee shop or hit the trails for a little run.
Q: Your biggest Travel Fear?
Missing my flight.
Q: The hardest part of travel?
I find it tough to be away from home for long periods of time. Traveling the way I do is exhausting. I often travel on a budget so luxuries like taxis or nice hotels get cut out of the mix. Sometimes I find it comforting to know I have a place to sleep at night, or where I will sleep at night. Money is stressful as well, it is easy to run out.
We did one of my many Rockies trips living out the back of the car, which is my favorite way to travel but it is always a process of cleaning and cooking and planning on the go.
Q: What do you own for camping equipment?
I have these items below for all backcountry and hiking trips:
-Big Agnes Copper Spur 2man tent
-Big Agnes Hitchens UL 20
-Big Agnes Q-Core SLX
-Merrell Outdoor Clothing (Puffy, Fleece)
